Report: Napoli still monitoring Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele

The talented Belgian is yet to command a place in the Spurs first team.

Napoli retain an interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The Serie A side are thought to have had a loan proposal for the 28-year old rejected by Spurs earlier this summer – as reported by Sport Mediaset – but they haven’t yet given up hope.

The report also claims Dembele has been in touch with Napoli attacker and countryman Dries Mertens about the lifestyle in Naples, suggesting a departure from London could be in his thoughts.

Dembele’s time at Spurs has been one of unfulfilled potential, with the enigmatic Belgian consistently failing to deliver the quality his abundant natural ability should allow.

Mauricio Pochettino opted to start the powerful midfielder on the right flank in the early stages of this season and he proved to be one of Spurs’ better performers, in what was a slow start to the campaign.

An injury against Everton, four games into the season, curtailed his progress and he has yet to feature since - although he is thought to be close to a return.

In his absence, the likes of Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli have risen to prominence and their form could tempt Spurs into considering offers come the January transfer window.
