Arsenal could lose Alexis Sanchez because of Champions League failure, predicts Ian Wright

The striker believes Arsenal's big players are going to look for moves if they continue to struggle.

Speaking on BT Sport, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has predicted the club could lose their big stars if they continue to struggle in the Champions League.

The Gunners have had a disastrous start to their European campaign this season, losing the opening game to Dinamo Zagreb before following that up with a defeat to Olypiacos on Tuesday evening.

They now face an uphill task to qualify from the group stages of the competition, with Bayern Munich to face in their next two group games, and Wright says continued failure in the competition could see big players like Alexis Sanchez look elsewhere.

“All Arsenal talk about is qualifying, and then they get in and normally get knocked out at the quarterfinals or last sixteen,” he told BT Sport.

‘This time they’ve got a massive hill to climb and if Arsenal are going to be going at this stage, then people like Alexis Sanchez are going to start looking over their shoulder. Look at him; he was the standout player for them.”

Champions League success of big importance to players

While it is a somewhat negative point of view from Wright, coming after another disappointing loss from the side, he has a point.

The Champions League has taken on added significance for players of the years, with some craving not only playing in the competition but also being successful in it as well.

While Arsenal have continually qualified, they have also continually failed to challenge properly in the tournament, something that will not have escaped the attention of some of their bigger name players.

If they continue to struggle, with this season looking like they will, then there is every chance that the likes of Sanchez and Ozil may look to move to clubs who are more successful in the competition.
