The Aston Villa defender has been praised by his manager following his showing against Liverpool.
Villa lost 3-2 to Brendan Rodgers’ side, with a brace from Rudy Gestede proving a mere consolation, but there were plenty of positives to take from the encounter, not least the contribution of left-back Amavi.
The 21-year-old arrived at Villa Park from Ligue 1 club Nice during the summer and he wasted little time showing what a talent he is, impressing from the outset.
He has been a bit hit-and-miss in more recent games but against Liverpool he showed his attacking threat, setting up Gestede for one of his two strikes and getting his second assist of the season in the process.
Speaking after the game, Sherwood told the Birmingham Mail, “I thought Jordan Amavi’s delivery was excellent against Liverpool. As soon as that cross left his foot I knew it was a goal.”
The problem for Villa is that despite adding some very exciting talent to their squad during the summer, the sheer number of additions means they have struggled for consistency thus far.
It was always going to take time for all the new players to settle, but with Villa currently 18th in the Premier League after six matches played, something needs to change quickly.
