Tottenham Hotspur turn their attention back to European matters later this week when they take on AS Monaco in their second Europa League group match of the campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side won 3-1 against FK Qarabag earlier this month but the Ligue 1 club are going to be a far tougher proposition, even if they currently find themselves languishing in ninth place in their domestic league after eight matches.
Here we take a look at three Monaco players that Tottenham should be particularly wary of on Thursday:
The 29-year-old Moroccan winger may not have the best record in terms of goals and assists but he recently returned from injury and suggested he has immediately hit a rich vein of form that Tottenham should be wary of.
Dirar returned from a three-match absence following a muscle problem to provide an assist in a 3-2 victory against Montpellier before scoring one and setting up another in a 3-3 draw with Guingamp at the weekend.
Still only 22, Stephan El Shaarawy seems to be have been around forever, and while he has managed to score just one goal in 11 appearances for Monaco this season, he is more than capable of putting Tottenham to the sword this week.
Pochettino will be aware of the Italian’s quality and this could be the match when he turns the corner following his arrival in France.
Equally comfortable playing as a right-back or a defensive midfielder, Fabinho has starred in the latter position this season. But much like Eric Dier at Tottenham the Brazilian has also showed he knows where the goal is.
The 21-year-old has scored two goals and provided two assists this season and wherever he plays on Thursday expect him to have an impact.
