Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba has told the Chronicle that he enjoys playing alongside Fabricio Coloccini at the heart of the side's defence.
Mbemba has generally been paired with Coloccini when played at centre-back, and he is enjoying creating a partnership with the Argentine.
“I have only been here only two months. I like playing alongside Fabricio Coloccini," he said. “We’ve had seven games together so we are working hard together.
“I like everything about being in this team, we’re all going forward together.”
Mbemba has made a good initial impression at Newcastle since joining from Anderlecht, but Coloccini's form has been less encouraging.
The long-serving defender has looked erratic and his performances have been widely criticised by supporters of the North East outfit.
Unfortunately for Newcastle, they lack depth at centre-back, so Steve McClaren has little option but to persist with his current favoured pairing.
McClaren could pick Mike Williamson, but he has looked short of the required quality to play in the Premier League, while Jamaal Lascelles has limited experience - and none at the highest level.
It means that Coloccini and Mbemba should have plenty of time to work up an understanding, and McClaren will be hoping that the pair will come good with time.
