Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer target, Saido Berahino, scored for West Bromwich Albion against Everton in the Premier League on Monday.

Mark Sampson has stated on social networking site Twitter that he understands why Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.

The 22-year-old striker was linked with a move from West Brom to Premier League rivals Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

The Baggies themselves announced on their official website that Spurs had made a bid, with club chairman Jeremy Peace explaining why it was turned down.

Berahino has started to pick up form for West Brom this season and was on target against Everton at The Hawthorns on Monday evening.

The England women's national football team head coach, Sampson, was following the Premier League encounter, which ended in a 3-2 comeback win for the Toffees.

Sampson was impressed with Berahino’s performance and stated on Twitter that he understands why Pochettino wanted to sign him.

Berahino is one of the better young English strikers in the Premier League and is one of the most important players for West Brom.

In five Premier League appearances so far this season, the youngster has scored two goals and created two chances.

Berahino has a pass accuracy of 82% and a shot accuracy of 60%, and has won two headers, five dribbles and three tackles.
