Glenn Hoddle says Ross Barkley reminds him of Paul Gascoigne

Glenn Hoddle speaks highly of Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has written in The Daily Mail that Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley reminds him of Paul Gascoigne.

Former Newcastle United and Tottenham midfielder Gascoigne is an England legend, having helped the Three Lions progress to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup.

The Englishman was one of the best players in the world during his time, and former Tottenham manager Hoddle has stated that Barkley reminds him of the ex-Rangers star.

“Ross has a long way to go to emulate Paul Gascoigne but his willingness to take players on, the directness in his play when he’s dribbling is reminiscent of Gazza,” Hoddle wrote in The Daily Mail.

“Ross is physically strong too and I like the fact that’s not content with just creating but that he likes to get in the box and on the end of crosses.

“He can shoot with both feet. He ought to be a goalscorer and he’s showing that more this season. He looks more secure in his role and with that comes the confidence to create and score.”

Barkley is a very talented young midfielder and has already earned 15 caps for England.

The Everton man is just 21 years of age and has a long way to go, but he does certainly look like a player who can go on to achieve great things.

Working with Roberto Martinez is only going to help Barkley grow and develop as a footballer. The Everton manager knows how to get the best out of young players.
