It is fair to say Chelsea’s start to the new season has not gone according to plan; in fact, the reigning Premier League champions are having something of a ‘mare and things have to take a significant upturn sooner rather than later.
Chelsea currently find themselves 14th in the league after seven matches played, eight points behind leaders Manchester United. But in Europe they currently lead their Champions League group and a victory against FC Porto this evening will give them some much needed confidence.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho knows Porto well having previously managed there and he will know his former side will be desperate for three points of their own after drawing with Dynamo Kiev last time out.
Chelsea defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 in their opening Group G match and another comfortable victory is exactly what the Blues need right now.
Porto will, however, have other ideas and in their own backyard they will be a tough proposition.
