Paul Merson has struggled to get his Tottenham predictions right, with this weekend against Manchester City a notable instance.
Tottenham fans have gleefully taken the opportunity to hit back at Paul Merson after the pundit predicted they would suffer a heavy defeat to Manchester City.
The former Arsenal midfielder told SkySports ahead of the weekend that he believed City would win 3-0 at White Hart Lane.
He felt Tottenham's loss to Arsenal in the Capital One Cup in midweek would have demoralised Tottenham to the point that City could run wild, but instead the defeat appeared to galvanise them.
He said: "This will be a walk in the park for City, especially after their slip up against West Ham. Spurs' north London derby defeat will affect them, especially as they were looking for a winner when Mathieu Flamini banged in the second."
As it turned out, Merson's prediction was nowhere near accurate. Spurs played like the team which began 2015 by demolishing Chelsea 5-3, looking inspired as they beat City 4-1.
The three goal swing was the opposite of Merson's prediction, and was the second consecutive week he had tipped them to lose, also calling a home loss to Crystal Palace a week earlier - a game Tottenham won 1-0.
The result was not all that mattered to Spurs, it was the performance, with key contributions from Eric Lamela and Eric Dier, while Harry Kane stepped up to silence the doubters and score his first club goal of 2015/16.
Fans took the opportunity to respond to Merson, and remind him of just how awful his prediction turned out to be...
