The Gunners built upon their 2-1 win over Tottenham in the Capital One cup in midweek to secure a win against the Foxes at the Kingpower Stadium, with Alexis Sanchez the star of the show as he bagged a hattrick.
It was an impressive team performance from the side throughout, with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott also displaying fine form, and Wenger believes it was their best performance of the season yet.
“Certainly it was the most convincing [display of the season] going forward, yes,” he told arsenal.com.
“It was a tricky game because Leicester hadn’t lost, and I was a bit concerned because we did not want to lose ground on the other teams - so it was a big win for us.”
Praise for both Giroud and Walcott
While Sanchez grabbed the headlines with his performance, which was all the more impressive given how slowly he has started the season, Wenger was keen to praise fellow forwards Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
Walcott started the game as the lone forward and was a constant danger to the Foxes defence throughout the game, with him bagging the equaliser after Jamie Vardy had opened the scoring.
Giroud came off the bench to help himself to a late goal, his side’s fifth of the afternoon, and Wenger says he is pleased with both strikers’ games.
“I am pleased with [the strikers’] games,” he added.
“Giroud is sharp in training and in the matches as well, I think he played well at Tottenham. Walcott is improving game after game, he holds the ball better up front, his movement is great and both of them scored.”
