Lee Cattermole makes bold claim about Sunderland's squad

Sunderland are currently bottom of the Premier League table, after losing 3-0 to Manchester United.

Lee Cattermole has told the Chronicle that Sunderland's squad is stronger this season than it was last campaign.

The Black Cats have made a terrible start to the season and the currently prop up the Premier League table, without a win to their name.

However, Cattermole is insistent that they have made improvements over the summer and he believes that their quality will shine through eventually.

"I believe we have better quality than we had last season,” the midfielder said in the Chronicle. “We have better players.

“We have a strong bunch of lads with enough experience to come through this. We should not be panicking, especially after this. I think we need to get away to training and look towards Saturday.”

Despite Cattermole's positivity, optimism is in desperately short supply at the Stadium of Light at the moment.

Sunderland's performances over the opening to the campaign, have been miles short of the standards required in the top-flight, and they currently have just two points to their name.

The Wearsiders' most recent outing was against Manchester United, and they lost 3-0 - without ever really threatening Louis van Gaal's men.

It has been the story of their season so far, and only a vast improvement will see them climb away from trouble.
