Brentford axe Dijkhuizen, place Carsley in charge

HITC Sport understands Brentford have axed head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen.

Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen has been sacked, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Dijkhuizen has been under pressure following Brentford's stuttering start to the new Championship season.

The Bees have only won two of their opening seven games and sit 19th in the table.

Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday appears to have been the final straw for Brentford board who have decided to look for a replacement for Dijkhuizen and placed Lee Carsley in charge.

Dijkhuizen joined Brentford this summer after leaving Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior in a surprise appointment.

The 43-year-old replaced Mark Warburton at the helm, but was unable to replicate the success of Warburton who guided Brentford to the play-off semi-finals last year.

Brentford sold last season's top scorer Andre Gray in the summer as well as a number of other key performers, while a number of new signings brought in from abroad have so far failed to show their best form

Brentford currently find themselves just one point clear of the drop zone in the Championship and the club fear if they do not make a change they could become embroiled in a relegation battle this season.
