The Belgian defender has sung the praises of the versatile enforcer after the 4-1 win over Manchester City.
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has sung the praises of team-mate Eric Dier after the team’s 4-1 win over Manchester City, telling the club’s official website that the Englishman has been ‘massive’ for the team this season.
The Belgian’s summer arrival and resumption of his partnership with compatriot Jan Vertonghen were seen as potential for Dier to be a fringe figure this season, but Mauricio Pochettino has reinvented the 21-year-old as an impressive midfield enforcer.
Dier was on the mark in Spurs’ win over City yesterday, scoring the side’s first goal to get his team back into the game at 1-1 and putting in another outstanding display for the North London side in his adopted position.
Alderweireld picked Dier out for specific praise in the aftermath of the game, stating that the former Sporting Lisbon starlet is now an important player for the White Hart Lane club.
“He is a wonderful young player, this season he has been massive,” the Belgian told the club’s official website.
“I hope he will continue like this because he is a very important player for us.”
Spurs’ mettle will be tested over the next week, with tricky away games against Monaco in the Europa League and at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea next Sunday real challenges for the North London side.
