The former Leeds striker is backing the current United man to come good.

Ex-Leeds United forward Noel Hunt was shocked to see Sam Byram being benched by Uwe Rosler during the Yorkshire club's 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the furore currently surrounding the right-back turned right-winger, Hunt was expecting to see him start for the Whites at the Riverside.

And he expressed his disbelief on Twitter, while also praising striker Mirco Antenucci.

When pressed by Leeds fans about Byram, Hunt insisted he isn't bitter about his old club but rather stated he would always prefer to have the 22-year-old in his side than not.

He went on to respond to more United supporters, admitting the youngster's loss of form was just cause not to start him against Middlesbrough - but Hunt also made the confident prediction that Byram will be back to his best soon.

The ex-Leeds man also discussed the effect recent speculation will have had on the young United star and urged the Elland Road faithful to get behind Byram as soon as possible.

Leeds produced a very poor display at Middlesbrough but, looking at Aitor Karanka's squad on paper, this defeat was no shock. It's simply about how Rosler and co respond and how they learn from playing against a team that outclassed them on the day.
