Forget defeat, Will Buckley could change everything for Leeds United

Will Buckley could add a new dimension to Leeds United's attack.

Leeds United suffered a miserable loss against Middlesbrough on Sunday, with their performance littered with errors.

It could be said that they beat themselves, with their haphazard defending summed up by Giuseppe Bellusci's own goal.

Yet there is hope on the horizon, not least because they surely cannot defend as badly as they did at the Riverside, again.

Until this point, Leeds have looked solid at the back, barring goalkeeper Marco Silvestri letting his side down in key moments.

Leeds did not have new loan signing Will Buckley eligible to play in this fixture, with his agreement to join from Sunderland beginning this week.

Fellow new boy Jordan Botaka made his debut against Middlesbrough, and he will be all the better for it when he is handed his next start.

Leeds finally have competition for places out wide, with Stuart Dallas another summer signing, and Sam Byram remaining an option on the wing.

Buckley could be the best of the lot, if he can recapture the form he showed previously in the Championship for Brighton and Hove Albion.

He has the experience Leeds need, and should possess the temperament to deal with the big stage at Elland Road, where they have struggled to settle early on this season.

The Whites have two consecutive home games upcoming, against ninth placed Birmingham, and Buckley's former side Brighton, who currently top the table.

The stage is set for Leeds to put this game behind them, and attack the opposition and utilise the home crowd to their advantage, and Buckley can play a galvanising role.
