David Gold hopeful Alex Song will be back playing for West Ham next month

Upton Park

The West Ham United loanee could soon be back in action following a spell on the side-lines.

West Ham United joint chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to comment on the likely return date for on loan midfielder Alex Song.

The Cameroon international returned from a second stint at Upton Park from Spanish side Barcelona during the summer, but he is yet to play for West Ham this season.

That could soon change however, with Gold responding to a fan’s question on Twitter asking exactly when the 28-year-old would be back playing again.

“I’m hopeful that Alex Song will be fit to play by the end of October,” Gold wrote on Sunday morning, and that can only be good news for a West Ham side that has impressed against the top clubs this season but still fallen short against some of the Premier League’s lesser lights.

So far under manager Slaven Bilic, West Ham have defeated Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City away from home but they have lost to Bournemouth and they could only draw against Norwich City this weekend courtesy of a last-minute equaliser.

Song will add more steel and another quality option to West Ham’s midfield and having played 31 matches for the Hammers last season he will surely be desperate to add to that tally a year on.
