England international striker Sturridge was the star of the show for the Reds this weekend, as they got the better of Aston Villa 3-2 at home in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old scored twice for Brendan Rodgers’ side at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, his first coming just before the hour mark and his second on 67 minutes.
Former Arsenal striker Smith was impressed with Sturridge’s performance and was pleased to see that the former Chelsea striker has recovered from his injury problems.
“A brace against Aston Villa spoke volumes for the Liverpool striker’s natural ability,” Smith wrote in The Telegraph.
“If Roy Hodgson was happy to witness Harry Kane’s first goal, he would also have been delighted to hear of Sturridge’s exploits.”
Boost for Liverpool
Liverpool have not been playing well and have not been getting good results in recent weeks, and the return of Sturridge is certainly going to help the Reds.
The former Manchester City player adds mobility to Liverpool’s attack and also assures the team of a certain number of goals.
Sturridge is a very good striker, and if he can stay fit from now on, then he will certainly enhance Liverpool’s chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
