The defender had a blood clot at the start of the season and made his return in the League Cup this week.
Manchester United take on Sunderland this weekend, with a heap of expectation on them to win comfortably after Sunderland’s terrible start to the season.
Meanwhile United are buoyed by their most recent performances. They defeated Ipswich Town 3-0 in the League Cup this week and beat Southampton in the Premier League 3-2 in their last league match.
So they will be hopeful of picking up a similar result against the out of nick Black Cats.
They might also be able to give one of their key players a first Premier League appearance of the season.
Phil Jones has not played in the league this season after suffering a blood clot in his leg but he featured against Ipswich in the week and has been training with the United first-team ahead of, he hopes, a first Premier League appearance of the season.
James Wilson was also in training. The striker later completed the formalities of his new contract extension at the club – signalling United’s intent to get him into the first-team on a regular basis in the future.
