The two sides meet at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has claimed on Spurs TV that having the right mentality will be key for his players, if they are to pick up a result against Manchester City on Saturday.
Spurs have struggled in recent seasons against the Citizens, and have lost the last four encounters - conceding 16 goals in the process.
Pochettino will be hoping for a change of fortune when Manuel Pellegrini’s men arrive this weekend and the Argentine believes there should be no inferiority complex among his players.
“I think it’s important, our mentality, to compete tomorrow,” he told Spurs TV.
“It’s true that they have great players but we are a team that has a lot of quality too and we can play face-to-face with them.
“We need to show that we can compete and try to win the game.”
City had started the season in unerring fashion before a loss to Juventus in the Champions League was followed up with a defeat to West Ham United last weekend to reveal chinks in their armour.
Spurs were slow to get going this season, but improved in recent weeks and have enjoyed three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League.
Wednesday’s League Cup defeat to Arsenal will have been a bitter pill to swallow, but a good result against the league’s most impressive team will go a long way towards easing the pain.
