Could Steve McClaren be looking at alternative options ahead of the Chelsea clash?
Kevin Mbabu, 20, Ivan Toney, 19, and Jamaal Lascelles, 21, all looked sharp during first-team training on Friday afternoon as the Newcastle United first team trained ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea.
It's a big game for Steve McClaren and the boss may well be looking at alternative options, such are the kind of performances his regulars have been putting in at St James' Park.
All three played a part in Newcastle's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup, though, meaning they aren't exactly going to be cult heroes just yet.
But maybe McClaren wants to inject some youth and energy into his side v Chelsea.
If not, he is at least integrating the youngsters properly in case he wants to give them a run of games this season. Interestingly, though, he doesn't seem to be willing to give Rolando Aarons a chance, with the 19-year-old - who has already proved he isn't scared of the Premier League - linked with a loan move away from St James' Park by the Daily Mirror.
Here's a selection of the Magpies youngsters in first-team training ahead of a huge Premier League fixture. Can Newcastle maintain their good recent record against Chelsea or is McClaren heading for failure?
