Paul Merson picks two West Ham stars in his team of the season so far

The Sky Sports pundit has paid a West ham duo the ultimate compliment.

Paul Merson has included West Ham United's Mark Noble and Dimitri Payet in his team of the season so far, according to Sky Sports.

Indeed, the former Arsenal midfielder has become infamous among the Upton Park faithful for often being overly critical of the east London club. In this case, however, he has given due credit to two of their star performers.

Meanwhile, every other Sky Sports pundit also included at least one West Ham player in their teams of the season, too.

Phil Thompson was the only man not to select Payet, although he went for Winston Reid at centre-back.

A Noble cause

Interestingly, Noble seems to have taken his game up a level in the absence of Kevin Nolan, who many felt was a bad influence on the West Ham midfielder by restricting what he could do in the middle of the park.

But the 28-year-old was always an underrated, hard-working midfielder brimming with quality - and has also been inspired by being handed the Hammers captaincy.

Payet's form, meanwhile, needs no more description. The only issue West Ham fans may, in the back of their minds, fear is a potential dip in from from the Frenchman this season. Creative players do seem to suffer from those - Alex Song at Upton Park last term, Mesut Ozil all too often at Arsenal and Philippe Coutinho all the time at Liverpool.

So far, though, Payet has been in a class of his own.
