Former Borussia Dortmund Emmanuel Mbende has won a deal at Birmingham City after impressing on trial, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Mbende is a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer following the expiration of his contract at Signal Iduna Park.
The 19-year-old came through the youth ranks at Dortmund and was a regular in the Under-17s and Under-19s team, but he never made a first-team appearance for the German giants.
The Cameroonian can play at centre-back and in a defensive midfield role, and Birmingham were alerted to his availability once he found himself without a club.
Mbende linked up with Birmingham last month for training, and he has impressed Blues boss Gary Rowett and his coaching staff.
Rowett is keen to add to his squad, with the Birmingham boss having one of the smallest playing staffs in the Championship due to the club's financial position.
The move has been held up by some paperwork issues, but now Birmingham have been given the green light to seal the African's signature.
Mbende is understood to have agreed a deal until of the end of the season with the option of a further year, and his arrival will bolster Rowett's defensive options.
