Report: Crystal Palace set to make offer for Matthew Shevlin, John Taggart comments on deal

Crystal Palace and Celtic want to sign young striker Matthew Shevlin.

As reported by the Ballymena Times, Crystal Palace are set to make a formal offer for Matthew Shevlin of Ballymena United, having been impressed by the youngster during his trial spell at Selhurst Park.

It was reported by the same media outlet last week that the striker had agreed a one-week loan spell with the Eagles, who had fought off interest from Celtic and Charlton to secure his signature.

And it now appears he has impressed enough to earn a permanent contract, with Ballymena United chairman John Taggart confirming in the report that Palace are set to make an offer for his permanent signing by the end of this week.

Taggart said: “The indications I have, both from the representative of Crystal Palace that I spoke to and the player’s agent, are that the club are interested in signing the player. By all accounts Matthew did very well during his trial and from that, I’m told that Crystal Palace are expected to make an offer for my by the end of this week.”

Despite both Celtic and Charlton showing an interest in signing Shevlin, there are no indications in the latest report that they are ready to either take him on trial, or match Palace and offer the youngster a permanent contract.
