Report: Barcelona remain seriously interested in Newcastle United struggler Florian Thauvin

The Catalan side are said to have Thauvin firmly on their radar.

This summer Newcastle United decided to swap their Frenchman who hadn’t worked out for one who has struggled himself at Marseille.

Remy Cabella headed to France whilst Florian Thauvin came in the opposite direction, with a fee of £12 million also going in the other direction – according to The Chronicle.

The attacking midfielder has impressed once, during a League Cup tie with League Two side Northampton Town.

Other than that, it is fair to say he has struggled to find his best form.

Which made it all the more surprising when it was recently reported that Barcelona were considering a move for the player when their transfer embargo came to an end in the winter.

Now, Catalan paper Mundo Deportivo have provided an update on the situation, making it clear that there really is a possibility of this move coming off.

They claim that Barcelona would be happy to stump up the cash to bring in Thauvin, with Rafinha set for half a year out of action with a serious knee problem. They also claim that Newcastle are open to his exit, if Barca meet his transfer fee.

The deal still sounds a little far-fetched to be true but if Luis Enrique is a fan than who knows, Newcastle might just offload him to Barca in the winter.
