Middlesbrough midfielder Diego Fabbrini pays Leeds United compliment ahead of weekend match

Middlesbrough and Leeds United are due to meet at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday.

Middlesbrough midfielder Diego Fabbrini has told the Northern Echo that he feels their match against Leeds United at the weekend will be a tough one.

Fabbrini has praised the team that Leeds have put together, but says it is a game which Middlesbrough need to win if they are to be successful this season.

Boro are aiming to make it into the top-two, having failed to win promotion through the playoffs last season, and Fabbrini says that they will be going all out for the three points on Sunday.

“It will be another good game against Leeds,” he said. “If we want to go up to the Premier League, then we will have to win a lot of matches and this is the kind of game, at home, that we need to be doing well in.

"Leeds are a good team, and I am sure it will be a hard match. But we will be trying to win.

“I am very happy to be playing with this team. I think we are a very good team, and I feel lucky to be a part of it. I am lucky to be playing with some very good players here at Middlesbrough, and every day I know I must work hard in training to improve."

Middlesbrough go into the match having won their last six games in all competitions, and they are starting to show the quality that they have in their ranks.

Aitor Karanka has arguably pieced together the best squad in the Championship at the Riverside, with the likes of Stewart Downing and David Nugent joining their ranks over the summer.

Beating Leeds has proven to be a tough ask this season, though, and Fabbrini is correct in his assumption that his team could be in for a battle.

The Whites have lost just once in their opening eight Championship games this term, and travel to Middlesbrough having beaten Milton Keynes Dons in their most recent outing.
