Former Newcastle United man Peter Lovenkrands slams shocking Sheffield Wednesday result

The Dane felt this was a good draw for his former club.

Newcastle United’s woes continued last night, after being defeated by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.

A solitary strike from Lewis McGugan squeezed past the flimsy hand of goalkeeper Tim Krul and the rest is now rather miserable history for any Toon fan.

Or indeed ex-player. One such man is retired Danish forward Peter Lovenkrands. He spent three-and-a-half years at St James Park over two separate spells on the North East and is something of a fan favourite.

Last night though, he was shocked by Newcastle’s results – especially considering his hopes for the game.

He Tweeted:

Like many a Newcastle fan he felt Wednesday was a great draw and a chance for Newcastle to progress in a cup competition.

A good cup run was high on Newcastle fans list of wants for the 2015-16 campaign and they will now have to rely on good performances in the FA Cup.

But if they cannot beat a much-changed Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup what chance have they got of being at Wembley come the end of May.
