The Crystal Palace striker scored three times in his side's 4-1 win over Charlton Athletic on Wednesday night.
Gayle netted three times in the second-half against Charlton, as Palace made it through to the fourth round of the competition thanks to a 4-1 win.
The former Peterborough United striker's first two goals came from the penalty spot, before he headed in from a set-piece to complete his treble.
It was another display of the finishing ability that Gayle has become famed for, and it took his tally to eight goals in his last four matches in the Capital One Cup.
Overall, Gayle has 22 goals in 26 starts for the Eagles since arriving in 2013, and most Palace fans feel that it is time for him to get a first-team opportunity.
So far, Pardew has generally selected the likes of Bakary Sako and Wilfried Zaha to lead the line, as he looks for the ideal number nine in his team.
Here is the best reaction to Gayle's performance from Palace fans on social media site Twitter.
Sounds like Wickham will still b out & playing bolasie, sako & zaha from start doesn't work so Gayle has to start #cpfc— Richard Harvey (@richard1198) September 24, 2015
I still can't work out why we didn't start Gayle against Tottenham or even used him?— DAL (@cpfc_dal) September 24, 2015
Would love to know Pardew's reasoning for not playing Gayle every week. 8 goals in 4 games. Snm. #cpfc— AFC Hoopz (@robhoopz) September 23, 2015
What more does Gayle have to do to get a run of games.....#cpfc— Carl Mortimer (@CarlMSX) September 23, 2015
Dwight Gayle has to start on Sunday for #cpfc. Great runs, penalties and a great header for his hat-trick. Bamford unlucky not to score.— James Louis Kelley (@jameslkelley) September 23, 2015
