As Newcastle United are knocked out of the League Cup, Hatem Ben Arfa scores brace in 6-1 romp

The former Newcastle player is in great form for his new club.

Newcastle United’s terrible start to the new season continued last night as they were defeated by Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.

The Toon are now without a win in the Premier League this season and are now out of the League Cup – despite apparently taking the cup seriously this season.

Their performance was soon put into its miserable context when you consider the performance of Hatem Ben Arfa for his club Nice.

Ben Arfa was released by Newcastle in January and a day later signed with Nice. However, because of FIFA regulations who ruled he had played for two teams already last season, he was not allowed to play for Nice until the new season.

He eventually signed for the club in the summer and it has been a resounding success – with the former Newcastle flop bagging two goals in his opening six games for the club.

Yesterday, just before Newcastle went out to be embarrassed by The Owls, Ben Arfa was putting Bordeaux to the sword in the South of France.

He netted twice in a 6-1 win for his new team where he is already a firm fan favourite.

So overall, not a good night for Newcastle United. Unfortunately, Newcastle fans are starting to get used to that.
