HITC Sport understands that the powers that be at the Stadium of Light are less than impressed with how things are going.
Congerton arrived at the Stadium of Light in early 2014 with the expectation that he would help to overhaul the club on and off the field, including recruitment using his wealth of European contacts.
But Sunderland’s transfer strategy has done little but stall, and Dick Advocaat was quick to admit towards the end of the recent window that they had not landed everyone he had hoped to.
Indeed, their major signing of the summer was Fabio Borini, who had already spent time with the club prior to Congerton’s arrival last year.
Now HITC Sport understands that the club’s hierarchy are far from happy with the start made to the current campaign, which sees them winless and entrenched at the foot of the Premier League table.
Advocaat has already made it known that he would step aside if Sunderland wanted a new face at the helm, as covered by the Echo, but the Dutchman may not be the first major casualty at the Stadium of Light.
