Birmingham City couldn't secure a cup shock as they lost 1-0 to fierce rivals Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
Gary Rowett's side made the short trip to Villa Park to take on their Premier League enemies, but slipped to a 1-0 defeat thanks to Rudy Gestede's second half goal.
Birmingham came close to scoring on a number of occasions, notably when winger Jacques Maghoma raced through on goal and dragged the ball wide, before having another chance in the second half, which he hit straight at goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
It was a frustrating night for the Blues as they saw Villa claim bragging rights again, having not faced each other for nearly five years.
After the game, a number of Birmingham players took to Twitter to discuss the result, with many noting the exceptional support they received from travelling Blues fans.
Maghoma reflected on failing to score, whilst young winger Demarai Gray admitted he 'loved every minute' of his first Second City derby despite the result.
