Tottenham Hotspur are set to take on Arsenal tonight in the first North London derby of the 2015/16 season.
Spurs tackle Arsenal in the Capital One Cup at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night, in what will be the first meeting between the two arch-rivals this season.
It is a fixture which is always fierce, and Walker says that he will try to ensure that everyone at Spurs understands the magnitude of the tie and what it means to all concerned.
“They have played in derbies before for their previous clubs but I’ll say to them, ‘this is something special’," he said.
“I’ve played in a good few, so I am probably one of the most experienced players at Tottenham now. We have to play the game, not the occasion, and let our football do the talking. North London derbies are the type of game you become a player for. At the start of the season, you look for the Arsenal games and hope you can play in them. I scored the winner in one and I hope I can play in another winning team.”
Tottenham made a number of additions over the summer months and, as a result, there could be plenty of players who take in their first North London derby experience this evening.
Heung-Min Son and Clinton Njie could both start the tie, while Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer will also hope to be involved.
If they are, they will need to handle their nerves in what should be a white-hot atmosphere at White Hart Lane, with both sets of supporters hopeful of seeing their side make it through to the next round.
Tottenham are in good form, having gone unbeaten since the first day of the season, but Arsenal know the importance of winning this tie after suffering two straight defeats.
