Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori made his debut for the Toffees in their Capital One Cup clash with Reading.
He completed all 90 minutes as the club edged to a 2-1 victory, thanks to second half goals from Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu.
Mori did not cover himself in glory for Reading's opener, but ultimately with Everton winning, he can put his poor positioning on that occasion to a learning curve on his first game in English football.
The £6 million signing from River Plate showed encouraging signs of integrating well with his teammates, and improved in the second half.
Everton scored with their only two shots on target, with Deulofeu's free-kick a real illustration of his quality.
The summer signing from Barcelona is yet to hit his stride since joining permanently in the summer, but this was a message that he deserves more first team starts, and can be a match winner.
Mori's performance brought a mixed reaction from fans, but those who were underwhelmed certainly gave him the benefit of the doubt.
An away visit to a Championship side for a cup tie was a tough environment to get started in, and he will ultimately be better for it.
Here is a look at how Everton fans reacted on Twitter to his display...
Not sure about Mori. Love his passion but no idea what he's playing at positionally at times. #EFC— David Downie (@daviddownie17) September 22, 2015
I'm confused, is Mori a rampaging left winger or a defender? Halfway line should be a wall for the lad. #EFC— David Downie (@daviddownie17) September 22, 2015
Funes Mori didn't cover himself with glory for the Reading goal. Done on the back post. You'll have to do better than that son. #EFC— Colin Drury (@ColinDrury1) September 22, 2015
