The Tottenham Hotspur player wants to show his manager he was right to put his faith in him.
The 21-year-old has been pushed forward this season, excelling in a defensive midfield position that he previously took up for his former club Sporting Lisbon, from whom he moved for £4million in 2014.
Following his move to White Hart Lane, Dier rotated between right-back and centre-back but this season he is featuring regularly further up the field and Tottenham are already starting to reap the benefits.
Dier is expected to play in that position again later today, when Tottenham welcome their North London rivals Arsenal to White Hart Lane in the third round of the Capital One Cup, and if he plays to his potential he could be hugely influential on the final result.
Pochettino has shown faith in Dier this season where other managers may not have, and that is something the player is clearly delighted with.
Speaking to theFA.com, Dier said, “He puts his faith in you and he’s been great for me and any other young player at the club. He trusts you and it’s just a matter of us repaying him.”
They are starting to do that with three straight victories, but a fourth would be the sweetest of the lot if they can overcome Arsenal and remain in a competition they have a realistic chance of winning.
