Clinton Morrison and Michael Johnson react to Birmingham defeat

Aston Villa

Aston Villa defeated Birmingham City 1-0 at Villa Park in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday evening.

Exeter City striker Clinton Morrison has written on Breathesport.com that Birmingham City can be proud of their performance against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening.

Birmingham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Premier League outfit Villa away from home in the third round of the League Cup.

Rudy Gestede’s goal just past the hour mark proved to be the difference between the two sides at Villa Park.

Former Birmingham striker Morrison was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Gary Rowett’s side.

“Birmingham had the better of the first half but didn't create enough chances despite their threat out wide,” the 36-year-old wrote on Breathesport.com.

“Ayew & Grealish changed the game & gave Villa the spark they needed. Birmingham can be proud that they were the better team at times and you wouldn't have noticed which team was in the PL.

“It wasn't a great game but that’s not unusual in derbies. My MoM was Grealish but Ayew came close.”

Former Birmingham defender Michael Johnson was also watching the match, and he gave his thoughts on it on Twitter.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Villa Park, Championship side Birmingham had 46% of the possession, took seven shots of which two were on target, and earned two corners.

Hosts Villa had 54% of the possession, took 17 shots of which just three were on target, and earned seven corners.
