Charlie Austin: Alan Shearer is my hero

QPR Mascot And Fans

The Queens Park Rangers striker was inspired by the Newcastle United legend.

QPR striker Charlie Austin says Newcastle icon Alan Shearer is his hero.

Indeed, the R's forward, who now has seven Championship goals to his name after officially being awarded a strike against Blackburn Rovers, was linked with Newcastle this summer and Shearer himself urged him to move to St James' Park, according to BBC Sport.

And, during a QPR Q + A on Twitter, the 26-year-old has revealed the Magpies legend was his idol.

Whether that influences anything or makes any difference remains to be seen. If Newcastle want to prise the striker away from QPR, they'll simply have to pay the requisite fee or wait until the summer, when his current contract expires.

But, if Austin looked up to Shearer in his heyday, he may well have made it a dream of his to achieve similar success at St James' Park.

As things stand, meanwhile, Newcastle fans surely wouldn't mind seeing Austin in black and white come January.

The 26-year-old has continued his goalscoring form from last season into QPR's Championship campaign, while the Magpies have absolutely toiled so far this term.
