Report: Manchester City not rushing to offer Kelechi Iheanacho new contract, despite Tottenham’s reported interest

Tottenham reportedly want to sign the Manchester City teenager.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City are in no rush to offer Kelechi Iheanacho a new contract, despite the fact he has been drawing admiring glances from one of City’s Premier League rivals.

The Sun claimed last week that Tottenham Hotspur were looking at the young striker, having been alerted to his contract situation. The Nigerian forward made a stunning impact earlier in the season, coming off the substitutes bench to score a winner against Crystal Palace in the final moments of injury time.

The Sun report claimed that City were looking to urgently tie him down to a new deal, but the Manchester Evening News report that this is not the case.

It is stated that City are happy with the terms the 18-year-old is currently on, and with his contract not expiring until the summer of 2019, there are no fears that any other clubs will be able to swoop for him.

The only reason it is likely Iheanacho would want to move away from City is due to first-team opportunities, but City have so far afforded him the chance in the senior set-up, and the report claims that the City management are not worried by this situation.
