The Newcastle United players were training today ahead of the League Cup third-round tie against Championship club Sheffield Wednesday at home on Wednesday evening.
The Magpies will head into the game at St. James’ Park on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Watford at home in the Premier League.
Steve McClaren’s side have been playing poorly this season and find themselves second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with just two points from six matches.
The League Cup tie against Wednesday will provide a welcome distraction for the players, but they will be expected to win against the Championship outfit.
The Newcastle players were training today under the watchful eyes of McClaren, as they aim to return to winning ways.
Forward Ayoze Perez, attacker Siem de Jong and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum were particularly working on their free-kick skills during the session (see photos above and below).
