Harry Kane has still failed to score for Tottenham this season.
King said: “His goals for England showed he is not someone who is lacking in confidence or panicking in front of goal. The pleasing thing is that he is still getting in goalscoring positions and, if he continues to do that, I have no doubt the goals will come.”
Whilst King has suggested that Kane is not lacking in confidence, he does appear to have something affecting him, and the longer his drought goes on, the harder it will be to break.
Kane appears to be trying too hard to hit the back of the net, and not only is it negatively affecting his own play, but the entire Tottenham team are suffering because of Kane’s independent play.
The youngster is taking more shots per game than he was last season, and is attempting more dribbles. However, this means he is dispossessed by opposition players on a more consistent basis, and rather than laying the ball off to his teammates when he runs into trouble, Kane is actually playing fewer passes than he was last term.
Kane has the confidence to try these things, and his goals for England showed that his natural instinct in the opposition penalty area remains. However, he is currently trying too hard to hit the back of the net, and the 22-year-old needs to take a step back for the good of the team - and his own form.
