The two former Manchester United players are now lining up at West Brom, and the Scotland international is delighted to have his old teammate in the squad.
West Bromwich Albion star Darren Fletcher has paid credit to new Baggies defender and former Manchester United teammate Jonny Evans after his impressive start to life at the Hawthorns, in an interview with the Birmingham Mail.
The Northern Ireland international moved to the Midlands after being at Old Trafford since his childhood, for a fee said to be worth up to £8 million according to BBC Sport.
Fletcher is of course very familiar with the centre back, having spent many a game alongside him for the Red Devils, with both players having won several Premier League titles while at United.
And the Scotland star is delighted he is able to once again call Evans his teammate after Tony Pulis secured his signature in the last few days of the summer's transfer window.
“Jonny is a fantastic signing,” Fletcher told the Birmingham Mail. “I was so excited when he signed.
“He’s a top player. A great leader and a good talker and I think it’s a fantastic signing for the Albion and he’s going to be a mainstay in that defence for a number of years.
“It’s no coincidence that we have had two clean sheets and there’s more to come as well.
“I knew we were getting a top player - one of the best defenders I’ve ever played with at Manchester United and now here."
27-year-old Evans has helped the Baggies to an impressive run of clean sheets in the Premier League since his arrival, starring in the last two matches which has seen West Brom secure four points.
Fletcher's words are major praise considering some of the outstanding defenders the midfielder has featured with at United.
Given that Evans may yet have his best football ahead of him, West Brom could find that their signing of the defender could be one of the best pieces of business they've done in years.
