Alvin Martin explains why Celtic and West Ham fans are similar

The West Ham legend believes Hammers fans share a key trait with Celtic supporters.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Alvin Martin has suggested that West Ham and Celtic supporters share a similar trait when it comes to what they expect from their players.

Martin said: “West Ham United have a fantastic fanbase, they are very supportive and will stick with their team when others might desert them. But what they do demand is 100 per cent and Celtic fans will be the same.”

Martin, who played over 500 times for the Hammers, knows something of the support at the Boleyn Ground, and his comments came in the aftermath of Carlton Cole’s reported move to Celtic.

The Record article claims that Cole is in talks with the Hoops and could sign this week, having left the Hammers at the end of last season after nine years in East London.

The 31-year-old looks set to link up with Ronny Deila’s side, and it is this demand from the fans that he gives 100% which could make him a success at Parkhead.

Whilst never being the most prolific forward, no one could ever claim he failed to put himself about for the Hammers, and he endeared himself to the Boleyn Ground support for his desire and work-rate on the field of play.

If he can replicate these performances whilst a Celtic player, Cole should find no issue with becoming a fast fans favourite at Parkhead.
