One of Leeds United's young strikers is having a season to remember.

Leeds United’s senior side secured their second Championship victory of the season at the weekend when they overcame MK Dons 2-1 courtesy of goals from Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor, but the club’s youngsters also had a game to remember.

Leeds are developing some wonderful players in their academy right now and the current under-18 squad smashed their Queens Park Rangers counterparts 9-2 on Saturday.

The victory was Leeds under-18s’ sixth in their last seven matches, meaning they are currently top of the Professional Development League Two North, and the player who really stood out was young striker Mallik Wilks.

Wilks scored four of Leeds’ nine goals against QPR, taking his tally to the season to seven in six matches.

That is the kind of form that will get anyone to sit up and take notice and Leeds manager Uwe Rosler will no doubt be aware of just what a prolific young player he has in his ranks.

It will be a long time before Wilks makes his first-team bow with some outings for the under-21s the next viable target, but it is not only current first-team stars like Charlie Taylor and Lewis Cook that the Leeds fans should get excited about.

There are plenty more, with Wilks certainly one to watch in the years ahead…
