Leeds United fans react on Twitter as Gaetano Berardi signs new two-year contract

Gaetano Berardi has signed a new two-year contract with Leeds United.

As confirmed by the official Leeds website, Gaetano Berardi has agreed a new two-year contract extension to stay at Elland Road until 2018.

The Swiss full-back moved to Yorkshire last summer, agreeing a switch from Serie A side Sampdoria, and he has gone on to make 32 appearances for the Whites.

Although his career at Elland Road started in slow form, he has started to truly establish himself as a key player, and the 27-year-old has missed just one game this season, sitting on the bench on Saturday as Leeds beat MK Dons.

In seven Championship appearances, Berardi has registered one assist, and has excelled defensively. On average per game, he has made 2.7 tackles, 2.4 interceptions and 1.6 clearances, whilst also registering 0.7 shots and 0.4 key passes as he adapts to an attacking full-back role.

He has a strong work ethic, and his desire to patrol either the right or left flank with all his energy has made him a fans favourite in his short time at the club.

Speaking after he signed the deal, Berardi said: “I’m very happy here. The city and everything is very good.”

When news of the deal was confirmed, Leeds fans took to Twitter to express their delight at Berardi’s extension, and we collect the best responses here.
