The Hammers went in to their game with City having already stunned two of the so-called 'big teams' this season, with away wins at Arsenal and Liverpool.
Few gave them a chance against City, who had won all five of their games without even conceding a goal - but West Ham again proved their quality with another superb win thanks to goals from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho, even though Kevin De Bruyne did pull a goal back for City.
The latest win for Slaven Bilic's men has given Hammers fans hope of a great season in what is their last campaign at Upton Park - and two players in particular starred in the win over City.
Centre back Winston Reid was colossal in the heart of the West Ham back line, fighting for every ball and snuffing out City attacks in a stunning performance.
Meanwhile, playmaker Dimitri Payet continued his outstanding start to life in the Premier League, proving to be a creative and dangerous force behind the aforementioned Sakho.
Now, pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Reid's contribution was vital at the Etihad Stadium, and went on to compare Payet to world-renowned stars Yaya Toure and Kevin De Bruyne, who he lined up against on Saturday evening.
"Winston Reid could not have started this season better, nor could West Ham for that matter after taking nine points from their three games on the road," said Crooks. "The Hammers centre-back seemed to block everything in his path against Manchester City, making two superb blocks from Yaya Toure that looked certain goals. But it was Reid's header from a corner that resulted in West Ham's winner. Wins away at Arsenal, Liverpool and now Manchester City make the Hammers the 'Kings of the Road' at the moment."
"Manager Slaven Bilic went to great lengths to sign Dimitri Payet from Marseille. Since his arrival at Upton Park this season the Frenchman has been a revelation. Bilic insists his latest signing is in the same class as Manchester City's superstar David Silva. Unfortunately it was difficult to compare as the two, as Silva didn't play, but Payet was easily on a par with the likes of Yaya Toure and £55m new signing Kevin de Bruyne. I think that will do," he added.
Both players have been integral to West Ham's bright start to the season, and if Bilic is to keep up this kind of form, they will have to continue these excellent displays - and no doubt win even more praise in the process.
