Celtic, West Ham fans react on Twitter as Carlton Cole considers transfer

Carlton Cole could be on the verge of a move to Celtic.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila has told BBC Sport that free agent striker Carlton Cole is considering a move to sign for the Bhoys.

"We will have talks with him and see him in training as well, this week, I think," said Deila. "We will see if it is something that will happen or not. It is not [a trial]. He has been in London his whole life, so he has to see what he is coming to and then we will see if it is something that he likes and we like as well."

"I think he is a very good football player and he shown in the Premier League and also the Championship that he can score goals and he is different to what we have. He is a target man, very good in the air and strong and that is something that, if everything fits, could be good for us," he added.

Cole, 31, left West Ham United at the end of last season having seen his contract at Upton Park expire, but he has been without a club ever since then.

There have been few reports of interest over the summer surrounding Cole, but now Celtic are ready to sign the former Chelsea youngsters on a free transfer in a bid to boost their attacking options.

Once Deila confirmed Cole's potential move to Glasgow, both Celtic and West Ham Untied fans took to Twitter to react ahead of the possible deal.

Celtic fans were split over the move, with some suggesting that Cole isn't good enough to improve the Celtic side - though others believe that, in Scotland, Cole could thrive, whilst also offering a target man figure for the Bhoys, something Deila doesn't have at his disposal.

Meanwhile, West Ham fans suggested that Cole would be a good signing for Celtic, and wished him the best of luck having had such a long-running association with the Hammers.
