Taking a closer look at the West Ham United defender's performance against Manchester City.
West Ham United are proving to be quite the force away from Upton Park this season, racking up wins against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in quick succession.
Goals from Victor Moses and Diafra Sakho gave West Ham the victory against current Premier League leaders City on Saturday, but the Hammers had another player to thank for keeping the Blues’ considerable attacking talent at bay time and again.
Winston Reid has been great so far this season but the performance against City was good even by his high standards.
|Passing Accuracy||Outfield Blocks||Tackles Won||Effective Clearances||Effective Headed Clearances||Duels Won||Aerials Won||Interceptions Won||Mins Played|
The New Zealand international had a passing accuracy of 81 per cent and he made an impressive 18 effective clearances during the match (12 with his feet and six with his head).
The West Ham star also won seven duels, four aerial battles and five interceptions, along with two tackles and two outfield blocks.
In short, Reid was a key element of West Ham’s victory and while Dimitri Payet has rightly leapt to the front of queue as an early contender for the Hammers’ Player of the Season, Reid is now matching him stride for stride.
