Report: Sheffield Wednesday tried to sign Dimitar Berbatov, now want Danny Graham

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday tried to sign Dimitar Berbatov and are now interested in Sunderland’s Danny Graham, according to a report.

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in signing Danny Graham on loan from Sunderland, according to The Sun.

It has been claimed by the British tabloid that the striker would be interested in joining Wednesday if the Black Cats allow him to leave.

The Championship outfit are ready to pay Graham’s wages in full, according to the report.

The Owls are reportedly looking for a striker, as Gary Hooper is not fit and Swansea City rejected their advances for Marvin Emnes.

It has also been reported by The Sun that Wednesday failed in their attempt to sign former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Should Sunderland say yes?

Graham has been on the books of Sunderland since 2013 and has been a huge failure.

One could point out that the 30-year-old has been sent out on loan to Hull City, Middlesbrough and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the past two seasons, but then one should question why he was not kept at Sunderland in the first place.

Even during his loan spells, Graham struggled to score goals, and it has become pretty clear that he is not a striker who can do the job in the Premier League.

Graham is unlikely to get much playing time for Sunderland this season. Fabio Borini, Jermain Defoe and Steven Fletcher are ahead of him in the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.
