Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson might not be in with much of a chance of playing regular football at the club this season, but he has reportedly informed them he will not be heading out on loan this campaign despite links to Preston North End, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday.
The centre-back is hot property for Championship sides looking for an experienced defender to bring in on an emergency loan deal.
However The Chronicle is reporting today that despite his limited first-team opportunities a short-term move away is not on his mind.
Williamson is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to be happy seeing out his deal before finding a new club.
It comes in the wake of refreshed interest from the Championship. Preston were said to be keen on the player this weekend and in the past he has also been heavily linked with a potential move to Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
Despite not featuring at all in the Premier League this season Williamson is happy to remain on Tyneside. He has played just once this campaign, scoring in a 4-1 win over Northampton Town in the League Cup.
If Leeds and Wednesday were still interested, and Preston’s eagerness for a deal robust, it seems they are chasing a no-go.
