Michael Owen has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to David de Gea’s performance for Manchester United against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Spain international goalkeeper De Gea started the Premier League game at St. Mary’s Stadium and played for the entire 90 minutes, as United won 3-2.

France international forward Anthony Martial stole the headlines with his two goals, but De Gea’s performance did not go unnoticed.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper made as many as eight saves, the best of which came on the hour mark when he kept out a flicked header from Jose Fonte with his left hand from point-blank range.

Former United striker Owen, who was watching the match, was impressed with the save made by his former teammate and raved about him on Twitter:

Phil Neville, also a former United player, was impressed with De Gea as well, and claimed that he is the signing of the season.

United are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 13 points from six matches, just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
