Manchester United round-up: Early team news and Guardiola considered as future van Gaal replacement

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United take on Southampton later today as Louis van Gaal’s side look to get back to winning ways after losing to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last week.

Prior to that United defeated Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford and a victory this afternoon will see them move to within three points of current league leaders Manchester City with six games played.

In early team news, the BBC reports that United will recall Marcos Rojo following Luke Shaw’s horrific injury against PSV.

Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney are also being tipped to feature although the former will most likely start on the bench.

As for Southampton, they are without Jordy Clasie, Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand and Florin Gardos.

In other news, the Sunday Mirror claims United are looking at Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola as the long-term successor to van Gaal.

The Dutchman is just over one year into a three-year deal and the latest report claims the Old Trafford hierarchy are considering Guardiola as an alternative to current United assistant boss Ryan Giggs when the time comes to appoint a new manager.
