Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards scores great free-kick for U18s days after U21 debut

The young Tottenham Hotspur midfielder continues to impress at under-18 level.

Less than a week after making his debut for Tottenham Hotspur’s under-21 side, 16-year-old Marcus Edwards scored a cracking free-kick for the under-18 team against Reading this weekend.

Unfortunately it was scant consolation with the young Tottenham side losing 4-1, but Edwards showed yet again what a wonderful talent he is and why Spurs fans should be keeping a very close eye on his development over the next few years.

Edwards came off the bench to play for the last 12 minutes against Reading’s under-21 side last week and it was déjà vu of sorts as he was again on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat, although this time he at least got on the score-sheet.

Edwards scored with an inch-perfect free-kick on Saturday after winning the set-piece himself and his ability from dead-balls is just one of a number of reasons why he looks set for a very bright future at White Hart Lane.

Versatile enough to play as a defensive midfielder one week and an attacking one the next, he is also full of tricks, pace and confidence and his latest goal is not going to be his last by any means this season.

He may be back with the under-18s for now, but by the end of the season Edwards could well be a regular for Tottenham’s under-21s just as 17-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers is now.
